Wolviston Management Services are delighted to be supporting our client in the appointment of a Marine / Mechanical Engineer.
This is a unique opportunity to join a highly respected, globally recognised organisation, delivering specialist technical investigation services across the marine and offshore sectors. You will play a key role in diagnosing complex engineering failures, supporting clients to minimise downtime and return critical assets to safe and efficient operation.
The Role Reporting to the Technical Investigations Manager, you will be responsible for delivering detailed engineering assessments, using advanced analytical tools and methodologies to identify root causes and recommend effective solutions.
Working within a collaborative and technically strong team, you will contribute to a wide range of investigations, supporting both internal stakeholders and global clients.
Key responsibilities will include: - Conducting detailed technical investigations into system and component failures
- Performing numerical analysis using specialist engineering software and methodologies
- Producing high-quality technical reports, ensuring accuracy and clarity for client delivery
- Supporting wider advisory teams with technical expertise, including occasional site-based activities and data acquisition
- Presenting findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
- Preparing proposals and defining scopes of work aligned to client expectations
- Supporting project delivery, including monitoring progress, costs and contractual requirements
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing across the team
- Mentoring and supporting the development of junior engineers where appropriate
What We're Looking For We are seeking a technically strong and motivated engineer with a passion for problem-solving and delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
You will ideally have:
- A degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of marine power plant systems and propulsion equipment
- Experience in analytical methods such as Finite Element (FE) and Boundary Element (BE) analysis (e.g. ANSYS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN)
- Understanding of vibration, shaft alignment and dynamic response analysis
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills
- Experience working within marine, offshore or heavy engineering environments
- A proactive approach with the ability to manage workloads and prioritise effectively
Desirable: - Progression towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW or FORTRAN
- Knowledge of fracture mechanics and probabilistic analysis techniques
- Membership of a relevant professional body
