Maintenance Technician to join their team based in Middlesbrough.

The Role As a Maintenance Engineering Technician, you’ll take a hands-on approach to the efficient operation, maintenance, and improvement of pilot plant equipment and R&D facilities. Approximately 85% site-based and 15% office/administrative, this multi-skilled role requires both mechanical and electrical expertise.
You’ll be central to supporting process trials, troubleshooting technical issues, and implementing plant upgrades in collaboration with engineering and R&D teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems and components
- Service plant equipment, control systems (HMI/PLC) and associated instrumentation
- Support the operation and development of lab and pilot-scale equipment
- Participate in R&D production trials, proof-of-concept testing and process optimisation
- Operate and maintain plant utilities and safety systems (gas burners, compressed air, ATEX extractors)
- Ensure availability of critical spares and maintain accurate records
- Liaise with approved OEMs and external contractors
- Produce clear documentation of work, observations, and equipment performance
- Support external and customer site trials as required
- Promote continuous improvement in maintenance, safety, and efficiency
Abut you To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
- HNC or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (desirable)
- Minimum 10 years’ industrial maintenance experience in process, manufacturing, or heavy industry
- Knowledge of control systems, sensors, actuators, and plant instrumentation
- Welding experience (preferred)
- Previous exposure to pilot plant or R&D environments (advantageous)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proactive, self-motivated approach with excellent communication skills
