Project Quantity Surveyor

Location: Newton Aycliffe, Co Durham

Contract Type: Permanent / Full Time

Closing Date: May 21st, 2025

Ref: 1592323

Join the projects, not the routine!

If you're a Quantity Surveyor who enjoys the challenge of shaping how things are bought, built, and delivered — not just measuring the costs — then this could be your kind of role.

We’re working with a consultancy that supports some of the biggest project-led businesses in the region, and they’re looking for someone who can bring a sharp commercial eye to their team. The projects are varied, the work is fast-moving, and there’s a real sense of purpose in how things get done.

No red tape. No endless sign-offs. Just interesting work and the chance to have a real say in it.

Why this role might suit you

  • You want to get closer to the action, supporting live projects and helping shape procurement decisions from the ground up
  • You’re ready to move on from being just “another QS” in a big team
  • You like the idea of working across energy, chemical, or civil engineering projects (without getting stuck in one)
  • You want the flexibility of hybrid working, but the structure of being around people who know what they’re doing
What you’ll be doing

  • Getting involved in strategic procurement for capital projects
  • Supporting tendering, contract negotiations and supplier reviews
  • Managing live project costs, variations, and payments
  • Working alongside experienced consultants who value your input
  • Helping clients navigate contract terms (NEC4, IChemE — or picking these up if new to you)
What you’ll need

  • Around 3 years (or more) of post-qualification experience in a QS or commercial role
  • A QS qualification (degree or equivalent) — we’re flexible on the route you’ve taken
  • Experience with construction, civils, or engineering-led projects (housebuilding doesn’t quite fit this one)
  • An interest in the details — particularly contract T&Cs and project cost control
  • NEC4 or IChemE knowledge is a bonus, but not essential
What’s in it for you

  • A role with variety — no two days or clients the same
  • Genuine hybrid working (roughly 3 days on site or in-office)
  • Annual bonus scheme
  • Support for professional development (e.g. RICS or CIPS), even if you're still on the journey
  • A close-knit team that trusts you to get on with it
